Baby’s Coming! Need More Info? Let HubMob Help
67Baby’s coming! This week our HubMob has turned our talents to writing on pregnancy information and many topics related to having a baby.
Did you know that there are over 6 million pregnancies each year in the U.S., resulting in 4,058,000 live births? This translates to 11,117.8 births per day, 463.2 per hour, or 7.7 births per minute. Male babies edge out females, with an average of 105 boy babies born for every 100 girls.
There are almost 2 million pregnancies each year resulting in miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth, or other loss.
Each year approximately 467K infants are born prematurely, 459K are born to mothers who did not have adequate prenatal care, 469K are born to teenagers, and 1.7 million infants are born to unwed mothers.
Here’s more interesting information on pregnancy. There are 60 million women of childbearing age in the U.S., 70% of which are sexually active. Five percent of women use no form of contraception. Ten percent have infertility issues. Two million couples are infertile. Eleven percent of women are diagnosed with post partum depression.
Would you believe 820K women smoke while they are pregnant? Approximately 221K use illegal drugs during their pregnancies, and 757K drink alcohol.
The fewest babies are born on Sundays, and more babies are born on Tuesdays than any other day of the week. The months of July, August, and September have the highest birth rates in the U.S., while the lowest rates of birth occur in November, December, and January.
In 1940 less than 60% of births happened in hospitals. By 1998, 99% of babies were born in hospitals, with 92% having a physician present. There were 1.4 million cesarean births in 2007. Cesarean rates are higher for premature babies, and older mothers. Rate for mothers 40 to 54 years old is 48%, compared to 23% for mothers under 20 years old.
Interested in birth rates around the world? According to the United Nations’ statistics, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is listed as #1, and has the highest birth rates, with 49.6 births per 1000 citizens. Macau, of the People’s Republic of China ranks #195, comes in last on the UN list, with 7.6 births per 1000 citizens. Here are a few more listings, with number of births listed per 1000 people of each country:
#18 Nigeria 39.9

#52 Haiti 27.9

All About HubMob
Each week Princessa picks an interesting topic from current &/or upcoming events, celebrations, or holidays. Princessa reveals the new topic every Monday, in a forum thread in the Hubbers Hangout. See my predecessor, Shirley Anderson’s hub for more on HubMob Topics, How They Are Chosen.
Anyone can be a HubMobster by starting their hub from Princessa’s forum post link and writing on our topic. Add the HubMob graphic and RSS, and you are a HubMobster! Tips and instructions are on Princessa’s post.
You can ask or answer questions about the topic or technical issues in the HubMob forum thread, and cheer on other HubMobsters. When you publish your hub, post your link in the thread.
rmcrayne, that’s me. I take all of the hubs in the HubMob RSS, and link to all of them in a “roundup” hub, like this one! This guarantees everyone a backlink.
It is never too late to join a HubMob. Princessa never closes her question. Even after new HubMob topics have been posted, you can still write on an older HubMob topic. Just contact me when you’re done and I will see that you get in the roundup hub.
Maddie Ruud is our HubPages staff advisor for HubMob. She’s our go-to person for technical advice and all the tough questions.
Read Princessa’s hub, What is a Hubmob and how to join one, to learn more. For additional information, Princessa has written How to Write a HubMob Hub: Answering the request, adding the HubMob graphic and the RSS feed.

WOW what an incredible resource! You really went all out on this one. Thanks I really enjoyed reading it.
Hello pdh! Yes, I found the stats intriguing. Interesting point about longevity. Donna Gates of the Body Ecology Diet (I've written a bunch of BED hubs) suggests that a contributor to women's longer lifespans is the monthly cycle, which is like a cleansing or detox. Males don't have the same opportunity to expel toxins from the body, and therefore don't live as long.
Thanks Jen for the visit and comment!

Geez, good job RM and thank you!
I learned alot from the statistics about birth ratios -- more males are born, but I think they die younger than the female counterpart that is why there are more women at older ages,
Plus the months with higher birth rates, babies are made during late autumn and winter, hehe!
